Get Fit For Your Day: Morning Routine

 
How to become an early riser. Use this routine to set your day up for success.

Everyone has different morning routines and activities they do each day. My mornings have evolved and changed drastically since I started my fitness journey back in 2015. I was struggling and knew I had to change my mindset and reprioritize certain areas of my life. It is then that I saw the biggest change in my energy, personality, and productivity. I added these activities into my morning routine and they changed my life. 

Set alarms little by little to start getting up earlier. You can accomplish much more in the morning than after work.

EARLY TO RISE

I saw this quote the other day that perfectly sums me up, "I am not a night owl, or an early bird, I am more like a awkward pigeon." The biggest hurdle I had to get through was waking up earlier. I dreaded getting out of bed any sooner than I had to. That all changed when I committed to getting a morning workout in. I knew that in order to fit a sweat session in before work, I had to wake up earlier. I did this by progressively setting my alarm earlier and earlier until I had one extra hour before I would normally wake up for work. I hit the snooze once on my alarm before hopping out of bed. On average, I get up at 6:07am (I leave for work at 8:30am).

SIP SIP SIP

The first thing I do once out of bed is drink a full glass of warm water. I wash my face and brush my teeth to feel clean and refreshed. Once I finish that, Ill start to brew a cup of coffee and lay out my yoga mat. Coffee gives me LIFE. Anyone else feel this way? Simply the smell of it brings life to my soul; I can't start my day without it.

SET THE SCENE

This is so important! I place my coffee right beside my mat along with an extra bottle of water. I open the blinds of my window to let the sunrise peek in my room to awaken my body. Natural light tricks the body into thinking you should be awake, so having that sunlight in my room helps me come to life. I place all of the items I'll need for my workout next to my mat: bootybands, weights, water, and my workout video. Next, Ill turn on Spotify and listen to some lively tunes to get me in the right mood.

WORKOUT

Before my body is even awake, I'll get on my mat and stretch for a few minutes. I look over my workout for the day and hit play on a video without allowing my mind to tell me otherwise. This is the biggest tip I have. Don't give yourself room to pause and think about how sore your body is or how you just don't feel like moving. Begin to move and sweat. You'd be surprised just how easily you finish a workout once you simply start. I have told myself so many times that I just need to get through this one set and then I can stop. Nine times out of ten I get through the set and just keep going. My body livens and I start to get warm. My body then pushes my mind to continue my workout to completion. 

Shower to get ready for your day.

SHOWER

I used to shower before bed, however, once my schedule changed, I moved this part of my day to the morning. Directly after my workout, I'll hop in the shower. The refreshing water paired with the smell of soap is just what I need to take my mindset from workout to work-ready. Like a lot of fitness girls these days, I use dry shampoo quite frequently. About every other day I will just shower off my body and dry shampoo my hair. This helps my hair grow and get healthier. Another bonus is that it gives me a couple extra minutes to get ready for work.

ACV SHOT & BREAKFAST

My go-to shot in the morning is 1 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar "with the mother," 1/8 tsp turmeric, 1/8 tsp cayenne, with 2 Tbsp water and a squeeze of grapefruit juice. Cayenne increases your internal temperature and therefore increases your metabolism. I suffer from poor circulation so I add turmeric to my morning shot to prevent inflammation. ACV is life-saving. Previously, I had serious troubles using the restroom regularly, but ACV has cured most of my trouble with that. After my shot, I'll make my breakfast which usually ends up being Protein Pancakes with fruit or Overnight Oats. Breakfast has quickly become my favorite meal of the day.

DEVOTIONAL AND REFLECTION

Lastly, and most importantly, I start my day with a devotional. With my bible open and a devotional book turned to the current chapter, I find time alone with God. I set my intentions and goals and pray for follow through on them. I give thanks for another day to live and breathe. I pray and ask for guidance for the day, for passion to love others, and for opportunities to be bold in my faith. I pray that my life will be used to further His kingdom each and every day. This is the most precious time of the day for me. It sets me up for success and provides me with the energy I need to live and walk in faith.
