My body and mind has transformed before my eyes. Over two years, I have grown to be a better person, a more loving friend, a happier, healthier version of me.
In 2015, I found myself in a dark place both mentally and physically and knew something needed to change. I was struggling with body image issues and negative thoughts. I felt strained to impress others with little regards to what it meant for me to be happy. My thoughts were full of guilt and disappointment. I needed a change, desperately.
I knew that sticking to a something and following through would help my self confidence. I wanted to be proud of what I looked like so I searched for a fitness program to help me achieve my goals. I found BBG (Kayla Itsines' workout program) and within just one month I was seeing some serious results! I got engaged shortly thereafter and that just encouraged me even more to challenge myself and become a fitter version of me. I was pushing myself and meeting my workout goals. My strength and endurance were increasing and my body was changing to become leaner and stronger. #dreams I know. I enjoyed the 30 minute workouts as they were so short and sweet, and the sweat was REAL. I saw so much progress, but I started to drop off the program after completing it all the way through. I accomplished so much and was proud. My body had never looked so great and I began to feel confident.
Soon after I completed the BBG program, I began feeling less motivated to get to the gym and started comparing myself to other girls I saw on instagram. I was jealous of their bodies even though mine had come so far. I felt my confidence fading. I couldn't let myself regress, so I looked for another program to increase my drive to get healthy. It was then that I found Tone It Up. I wanted to keep myself challenged and encouraged. I started TIU's daily workouts and nutrition guidelines and fell in love! I found a community of uplifting girls ready to cheer others' on and encourage them to meet their goals. I joined the 2017 Bikini Series, an 8-week challenge of eating healthy and working out. I was so inspired by founders of TIU. The series helped me mentally and physically. I journaled daily, tracked my meals, checked in on instagram, sweated and enjoyed every second of it. The TIU trainers preach the empowerment of women and believing in yourself. My mindset changed from self conscious to empowerment, from guilt to balance, from jealousy to inspiration. My body transformed far more than I ever thought it could in 8 short weeks.
For anyone looking to challenge their body and mindset, I highly recommend joining TIU or a workout challenge. Transformations don't occur overnight, but with hard work, dedication and the right mentality. Don't be discouraged by slow change; every one progresses at different paces. Be encouraged in knowing that if you set your mind to something you can achieve your goals. Stay positive, keep pushing and love the process. The process of change is what affects yourself the most. I found so much motivation in learning to listen to my body, and in trusting, loving, and challenging myself. True beauty is in the process. Stick with it!
